2014 SYNCHRONICITY: Matter & Psyche Symposium
The SYNCHRONICITY: Matter & Psyche Symposium is a temple for the transition out of a dying worldview and into a conscious appreciation of a living universe. Being held at the majestic Joshua Tree Retreat Center this September, this embodied ideas festival will feature visionary art, practices and pioneers of our understanding of the relationship of cosmos and consciousness including: Rupert Sheldrake, Graham Hancock, Shannon O’Neill, Nina Elshof, Richard Tarnas, Jill Purce, Anne Baring, Marilyn Schlitz, Jim B. Tucker, Stephen Aizenstat, Gabriel D. Roberts, Lydia Ruyle and more.
Synchronicity
Jung coined the term synchronicity to refer to the occasionally observed phenomena of the meaningful interaction of events, objects and internal states of mind. He had been observing such incidents for decades and he discussed them with Nobel laureate physicist Wolfgang Pauli and other leading thinkers including Einstein (who was an occasional dinner guest at Jung’s home). Through his discussions with them, he clarified a description of synchronicity’s operation. Where Einstein had found time and space to be relative to one another, Jung saw in synchronicity the relativity of matter to the psyche. Just as the mystery of the effects of the observer on the matter in quantum physics was demonstrating the relation of the inner state to outer matter, so, too were the local, material occurrence of events related to inner states. In both ways, we were consciously observing the interaction of matter and psyche.
